10 website mistakes that lose you customers
Most small business websites have at least three of these mistakes. Each one costs you leads. Here is the checklist.
Run through this checklist on your own site right now. Each mistake costs you customers β and most are 10-minute fixes.
1. Slow loading
If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load, 53% of mobile visitors leave before they see your content. Test it: pagespeed.web.dev. If your score is below 90, fix it.
2. No mobile design
Open your site on your phone. Are buttons too small? Text overlapping? Forms hard to fill? You just lost the 60% of visitors who came from mobile. Pounce sites are mobile-first by default β most other builders are not.
3. No clear call to action
Visitors should know what to do within 3 seconds of landing. "Book a consult", "Get a quote", "Call now" β pick one and make it obvious. A site without a clear CTA is just a brochure.
4. Hidden contact info
Phone, email, address β all should be visible without scrolling. Burying them on a "Contact" page costs you leads. Show them in the header.
5. No chat widget
Visitors have questions. If no one is there to answer at 9pm, they leave. A chat widget (especially one with AI like Pounce's) catches visitors before they bounce.
6. Generic stock photos
The same dental office with the same fake-smiling model is on 10,000 dental websites. Visitors notice. Use your own photos when possible β even phone photos beat generic stock.
7. Wall of text on the homepage
The homepage should answer "what do you do?" in one sentence. Long paragraphs scare people away. Use short headlines, bullet points, and white space.
8. No social proof
Reviews, testimonials, photos of happy customers, logos of companies you've worked with β anything that says "other people trust me." Sites without social proof feel risky.
9. Outdated information
Your hours, prices, services should be current. Nothing kills trust faster than a "Β©2019" in the footer or a "summer special" promotion still up in March.
10. No SEO basics
Title tag, meta description, H1, mobile-friendly, fast loading. Without these, Google ignores you. Pounce handles all of this automatically. Other builders require manual setup.
The fix
If you have 5+ of these, your site is actively losing customers daily. The good news: most are quick to fix. The fastest fix is starting fresh with a Pounce site β it ships with chat, mobile-first design, fast loading, and SEO basics by default. Generate one in 30 seconds at pounce.chat.
If you prefer to keep your existing site, work through the list one item per day for two weeks. By the end you will have plugged every leak that is costing you leads.
